Lime Essential Oil
Expressed from the peel of the fruit Citrus aurantifolia, lime has a lively, invigorating aroma. When inhaled, lime is useful in reliving anxiety and depression. Very refreshing scent.
Historically lime oil was used as a remedy for dyspepsia. The steam distilled oil is considered non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitizing; however, the oil obtained by expression from the peel is considered phototoxic (reactive to sunlight) and should not be used in topical aromatherapy. The traditional aromatherapy uses are similar to that of lemon oil, namely fever, colds, sore throats, and infections, for which a few drops are sometimes taken internally since the pure oil is ingestible. The oil has strong antiseptic, antiviral, and bactericidal compounds.
